    Hi Ken,

    I hope all is well.

Do you think you will feature WIRED NextFest on your blog? Check out some of this year’s top exhibits:

    Hoverit Lounger
Don’t just sit – Hoverit. That’s the slogan of this 2-person British design-oriented furniture startup. In what they promise is the first in a series of magnetic hover furniture, the experience is (according to the company) more like floating than sitting. The lounger’s etheral appearance is accentuated by the designers choice of material, a clear acrylic plastic. The acrylic is not a cushion, but the give of the magnetic forces acting beneath a persons body weight, is probably makes the experience quite different from a normal, earth-bound, rigid plastic chair.

    HumanCar
The HumanCar just might be an eco-loving carpooler’s dream come true. Four seats provide and a roof provide a measure of comfort, and four rowing handles (for human-powered battery charging) provide the power. HumanCar’s first commercial vehicle, the Imagine, features an exoskeletal safety cage chassis with advanced steering built in, dual electric motors, and variable human power input. HumanCars will be manufactured in central Oregon.

Interactive Kiosk Prototype – EA Sports
Camera-based interaction with near photo-realistic animation of Dwayne Wade, NBA basketball star. The concept of interactive installations and kiosks based on this prototype is work for an upcoming Gillette corporate promotion that will include Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Derek Jeter, and Thierry Henry, and offer a platform for playing 1-on-1 interactive mini-games with sports stars. Overall, the platform uses a display, interactive camera, and digital animation hardware and software that are state of the art.

Feel free to contact me with questions or if you would like to receive any high-res photos. Thank you in advance for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.

    Best,
    Jessica

    Hi Ken,

I hope all is well in Intel-land these days. Tough climate, but I am optimistic. Looking through your blog, I could not find the rss feed to follow it. I recently created a blog to learn how it all works more hands-on and have learned a great deal. My plan is to introduce the first blog inside Entegris for my team and on from there.

Talk to you down the line sometime,
    Scott

  • A look at the future of the transistor from the Solid State Devices and Materials Conference (SSDM) October 30, 2009
I’m writing this on the plane from Narita airport to Portland as I return from  giving the plenary talk at the Solid State Devices and Materials conference (SSDM), in Sendai Japan.  It is always exciting to visit these device conferences to see the myriad of new options that are being discussed for next generation transistors.   Before I get into the t […]

  • Day One - Web 2.0 Summit & Social Location in Day 2 October 21, 2009
Fantastic first day and night in San Francisco for the 2009 Web 2.0 Summit. Intel sponsored last night’s reception in the courtyard at the Westin, right before Carly Fiorina almost declared that she was running for the California Senate. John Battelle tried to coax the answer out of her to no avail. Complete Video recap of Day One is here. Day 2 promis […]

  • The original 'rock stars' who defined innovation and integration October 20, 2009
Today, a small team of engineers will be recognized at the Computer History Museum for designing the world’s first programmable microprocessor in 1971, a 4-bit parallel CPU with 2,300 transistors. That project, from a fledgling integrated memory manufacturer barely 3 years old, was a significant achievement that one can honestly say changed the world. […]

  • Documentary on Intel Xeon processor 'Nehalem Effect' is nonsense October 19, 2009
I rarely write about topics with such vigour, but this latest video from a so-called documentary team is absolute and utter rubbish. There is no evidence whatsoever that the Intel Xeon 5500 processor can create the kind of data centre disruption witnessed in the documentary. In the spirit of openness, here is the video I am referring to: Here is the text tha […]

  • MotorWeek Pulls into Intel, Fills up on Atom October 17, 2009
PBS-TV’s MotorWeek visited Intel headquarters recently. Steven Chupnick wanted to learn how the tiny, mighty Intel Atom processor can help automakers stay in step with consumer trends. He met with Staci Palmer, director of Intel’s In-Vehicle Infotainment, Embedded and Communications Group, who talked about how computer technology can connect auto […]
